First Annual Ulster Volunteers Day commemorates 911 National Day of Service and celebrates local volunteerism
High Falls, NY – On Saturday, September 8, 2012, UlsterCorps, Dianova USA, and RSVP at SUNY Ulster are joining together to host the first annual county-wide volunteer recognition day picnic from 2 to 6pm at Epworth Retreat Center in High Falls, NY. Volunteers from Ulster-County based service agencies have been invited to come together in commemoration of September 11, National Day of Service. The picnic and music will be fun, family-friendly and free for these community volunteers, who will all be celebrated as Guests of Honor at the event.
“This event was inspired by Sam Magarelli and the Woodstock Volunteers Day Committee, who for 8 years have held an annual Town Picnic to honor their volunteers” explained UlsterCorps Director Beth McLendon. “As a county-wide resource dedicated to fostering a culture of volunteerism, collaboration and service, UlsterCorps thought this a wonderful way to show appreciation for our tireless volunteers. Sam was delighted to hear that we wanted to create a county-wide event and has been an invaluable resource as we plan and prepare along with our co-sponsors, Dianova USA and RSVP at SUNY Ulster.”
Sandra Nencetti, Executive Director, Dianova USA added, “As part of an international network dedicated to building strong communities, Dianova is thrilled to support and co-sponsor this event. What a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together to return the gift of time and service that our local volunteers give so freely! This type of selfless service mind-set perfectly embodies the work that we do here in the U.S and around the world.”
