Be spirited away on a five mile trail winding its way through the spooky woods, tunnels and caves of Williams Lake/Hudson River Valley Resorts at the Second Annual UlsterCorps Service Sprint. Top finishers will receive certificates in gender and age group categories. Slated for Saturday, October 29, 2011, the event is open to all levels of competitors, and also features a one mile fun run for children, a Zombie Escape Run and a one mile fitness walk/hike.

Participants are encouraged to represent their favorite local agency or cause as special awards will be given to Best Individual Costume and Best Group Costume. The event will also feature a DJ spinning spooky hits, a fresh pressing of apple cider and new this year for the adult run: The Zombie Escape. It’s five miles of zombie infested woods between you and freedom. Get to the finish with your brains intact and earn UlsterCorps Zombie Response Team certification and an opportunity to promote your favorite Ulster County non-profit agency. Runners in the Zombie Escape will be given a health flag belt (two flags each just like flag football)–avoid the zombies and get through the woods with at least one flag and all your brains intact and you win.

The fun begins with the kids one mile fun run at 11:00am and then the five mile timed race will kick off at 11:15 followed by the one mile fitness walk/ hike at 11:30.

In keeping with UlsterCorps’ mission, participants in the day’s festivities will also have the opportunity to be a part of two service projects. Volunteers will once again be pressing cider for local food pantries and soup kitchens made from fresh apples picked the previous week as part of SUNY New Paltz Make a Difference Day. And as part of UlsterCorps’ ongoing Storm Relief Initiatives, volunteers will also have the opportunity to be a part of Rondout Valley Growers Association’s Paper Pumpkin Project, a grass-roots effort to raise funds for RV farmers who suffered devastating crop loss from recent flooding.

Pre-event registration is available here or mail-in forms are available at Dicks Sporting Goods in Kingston, Davenports Farm Stand in Stone Ridge, Rock & Snow or Catskill Mountain Multisport in New Paltz. Day of event registration will take place from 10am-11am. The entrance fees are: Pre-Registration: $10 (no tshirt), $15 (with T-shirt), Day-Of Registration: $15 (no t-shirt), $20 (with t-shirt). The team prices are $8 (no t-shirt) or $12 (with t-shirt), a team must have at least three members. All funds raised from registration fees will benefit UlsterCorps. Proceeds from the Paper Pumpkin Project will go directly to RVGA.
