UlsterCorps and the Woodstock Artist Association and Museum (WAAM) are proud to announce Arts for Ulster, a unique series of events designed to foster volunteerism, build community, and raise money to support services for Ulster County residents. All events will be at WAAM, 28 Tinker Street in Woodstock.

Arts for Ulster will premier at the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum with a Gala Preview Reception on Friday, June 11th from 7-9pm and continue with a five week gallery exhibit in WAAM’s Towbin Wing, featuring works by Judy Pfaff, Gillian Jagger and Richard Segalman. More than 50 artists in all are donating work to benefit organizations providing a wide range of important services throughout our region. The Gala Preview Reception will also include a special chamber music performance of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Esopus Musicalia. (Please note quotes from participating artists below).

Arts for Ulster will culminate with a Live Auction fundraiser on Saturday, July, 17th from 6-10pm with auctioneer James Cox and a classical guitar performance by Liam Wood. Auctioned will be the more than fifty works of art each by a different artist, each benefiting a different not-for-profit.

On Friday, June 18th, 7pm, there will be a Special Performance by Rebecca Martin, the critically acclaimed singer songwriter, at WAAM.

“Rondout Valley Animals for Adoption, (RVAA) is dedicated to helping local families with food, supplies, low-cost spay/neuter and veterinary care for their pets so that no one is forced to give up a cherished family member for financial reasons. RVAA recognizes that the homeless, neglected and abused animals who end up in shelters are the tragic symptoms of a problem endemic to the larger community. The result is that, one pet at a time, one family at a time, RVAA is keeping animals out of the shelters and in the homes with the people who love them and only need a little help to keep them. I have never known of a shelter that I can feel so much admiration for and want to support.” Gillian Jagger, contributing a piece to benefit RVAA

“I met Beth from UlsterCorps through the meaningful Harvesting a Lifetime activity where my late mother in law was interviewed. Since then, UlsterCorps gained a good place in my heart. When I learned through Julie Wegener from Arts for Peace that UlsterCorps was now organizing Arts for Ulster, I didn’t doubt to become part of the committee. I created a specific artwork, “Shamus New Home” for this multifaceted event. This artwork will represent the Ulster County SPCA, one of the 50 organizations that will benefit from Arts for Ulster’s auction at WAAM. Since I volunteer at the UCSPCA walking dogs, including Shamus, I feel honored that I’m the artist representing them.” Elisa Pritzker, UCSPCA Volunteer

“The Rosendale Food Pantry is an important, if not always visible, part of our community. As an artist I hope that my paintings will also serve to help build community and in particular, working with the local environment, i feel privileged to able to contribute in some way to a more sustainable and healthy future for all our residents.” Tom Sarrantonio, Rosendale Food Pantry volunteer

“I’ve been impressed at how Queens Galley has been an important regional food relief organization with a large emphasis on education and therefore empowerment, for people in need of healthy meals.” Jane Bloodgood-Abrams, contributing a piece to benefit the Queens Galley Soup Kitchen

“When I moved to the Catskill Mountains in 1986, I called C.C.E. almost every week with questions about agriculture and the safety of our spring water. I took some of their educational programs in horticulture. Their concern for the health of our community is wonderful, today we are enjoying local organic farming, and we have to thank Cornell Cooperative Extension for their help. I admire the work they do to provide education to everyone.” Mercedes Cecilia, contributing a piece to benefit Cornell Cooperative Extension

“I wish to support Phillies Bridge Farm because I believe it is important for our community keep our local working farms visible and viable. I believe in local farming and consuming locally grown foods. The Phillies Bridge Farm promotes local agriculture and offers education and demonstrations to the public which helps keep local farming alive.” K.L. McKenna

Barbara Darr Williams was a longtime client of Meals on Wheels prior to moving to Highland Assisted Living two years ago. She writes: “The first week that I received Meals on Wheels, it was like, everyday, a new gem of a person, came to my door to deliver a meal. That was as much of a treat, as the good food delivered.” She is delighted to have her art hang in WAAM-it is a dream come true to her.
