Abbott House Post Adoption Services (a non-profit organization) is starting a monthly support group for families that have adopted children from foster care on the first Wednesday of each month, starting September 1st, from 6:00 to 7:00pm at the Kingston Library. Abbott House is seeking a volunteer to help run the children’s group in the children’s library. Please contact Hadas at (845) 457-5030 x3522 or via email at Hliebermann@abbotthouse.net.
The volunteer will help supervise the children while the adults are meeting. Since the children’s group will be in the children’s library, the kids will be able to play with the toys there, read books, and go on the computers – so the volunteer should be someone who would be friendly with the children and help them interact with each other to make them comfortable since they will all be new to the group. The volunteer will ideally also have the kids sit together and pass out pizza/drinks in the beginning of the group. The children’s librarian will be present and the children’s library will only be open to group members. There are no skills required, just a friendly adult – could be a college student looking for community volunteer hours.
