New Paltz volunteer contingent to go to hurricane victim’s aid on 11/11
This Sunday, the New Paltz community invites volunteers to join us for a day of post-hurricane cleanup in Staten Island. The carpool group is meeting at the Route 32 parking lot across from the SUNY campus main entrance at 7am. We will be traveling as a caravan to a location near Midland Beach.
If you are able please bring with you: Gas and toll money to cover yourself if you will be riding in someone else’s car, and food and water for yourself for the entire day. Dress warmly in layers, with an understanding you will get dirty and likely wet. Equip yourself for the day with sturdy boots and work gloves. If you are able, please bring a mop, broom, shovel, or hammer. We will have additional gloves, tools, and industrial garbage bags on hand.
Please join us if you are able to commit to being away for a whole day of hard work and are willing to work in dire conditions with a potential climate of uncertainty and strong emotions. Positive and empathetic temperaments are needed, along with a degree of strength and stamina. Hard work will greet us when we arrive.
If you are not in a position to commit for the day we would greatly appreciate your contribution to this trip. Donate supplies, loan a tool, offer gas and toll money, and certainly keep us and our neighbors to the south in your good thoughts. Suggested supplies to donate are work gloves, batteries, flashlights, face masks, sponges, disinfectant wipes, bleach and other cleaning products, paper towels, toilet paper, thick black contractor bags, buckets, and plastic storage totes.
Your concern is greatly appreciated.
Contact: Sandy Sunday for questions, or just show up. Thank you!
