he holiday season is approaching and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County’s 4-H Youth Development members have local less fortunate families in mind. Each year the Ulster County MuttMasters and the 4-H Teen Council clubs join forces for their annual community service project “Gifts in a Jarâ€.
The clubs are asking the community for donations of non-perishable food items or cash donations to purchase items for the gift jars. Club members will assemble jars of cookie mix, chili, soup, snack foods and brownie mix and attach the instructions on how to prepare the contents. The jars will then be combined with a turkey or ham and other food items to provide Holiday Meal Baskets for 12 families living in Ulster County. Please join Ulster County 4-H in our campaign to help those in need.
Below are the ingredients and accessories needed to put together the gift jars.
Flour, salt, garlic powder, dehydrated minced onion, 1-2 oz. packages of corn chips, yogurt covered raisins, brown sugar, baking soda, walnuts, dried parsley, Chex cereal, chocolate chips, M & M’s, ground cumin, dried oregano leaves, dried beans (such as black, pinto, garbanzo, kidney), dried cranberries, mini marshmallows, vanilla baking chips, chili powder, peanuts, small pretzels, and any other items that could be used for trail mixes.
Donations can be dropped off at Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County located at 10 Westbrook Lane in Kingston, Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm or Rapid Tool Rental located at 2 Cherry Hill Rd. in New Paltz, Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.
