This International Day of Climate Action will present a unified global movement to demand that world leaders work immediately to solve the climate crisis. In December 2009, the United Nations will meet in Copenhagen where delegates, non-governmental organizations and businesses from every nation will finalize a new climate change agreement. On October 24th these leaders will see that large groups of people around the planet have joined together to call for action to start lowering atmospheric CO2. The organization 350.org is coordinating this global effort. (“350†is the parts per million of atmospheric CO2 that scientists have recommended as safe to avoid irreversible climate disasters. Just recently our level rose to 390.)
People in the New Paltz area are invited to join together in focusing on positive things people can do to reduce our output of carbon dioxide. The coalition includes local organizations, businesses, institutions, individuals, and as many young people as possible, as it is their world that we are hoping to save.
